Leaseweb is a good company in a safe harbor (Netherlands) Music, Porn etc. Law is nice for filesharing
look at megaupload. he had his company in Hong Kong at the end. And what happened? We know it all...
don't think you're safe because others have .net .com domains.
uploaded.net could have their domains seized too if the time is there... There is always one point where it's enough.
If there's one judge that hates you he will find a way. 10 years it works good and from on to another day your domain is gone and your service is closed.
that's why I tell you to think about not to ignore the DMCA. At the end it's up to you... World is small you cannot hide forever
sure you can use your own servers. that is up to you. of course it also depends on your country's law. but the most copyright owners are from the usa. and believe me you should worry about the fbi if you're out of europe.enricodias4654 said:Many good hosts use .com and .net domains. Uploaded.net is one good example of this. I think the file servers are not a issue since people will just send the complaints to your main server where the download page is.andreas5605 said:First of all get a safe harbor for your host like a .to domain! Only in the Netherlands or Romania it is allowed to run such a critical service these days. Do not use USA or German servers even if the offer is very good!
I think that in this level it's better to maintain your own servers and connect them to IXPs. At least here all IXPs are free and anyone can setup any number of physical connections with them. Here in our office we have a 100mbps link to 2 major IXPs paying nothing.andreas5605 said:With big sites we had around $20k/month on server costs for space & BW with 10GB ports etc.
If you are not american, don't use american payment methods and don't use american servers you should not worry about the FBI or DMCA. You must follow the law on your country only.andreas5605 said:You should think about "NOT ignoring" DMCA because the FBI will sooner or later close your service or takes your website.
