Hi all,

First, sorry about my bad English.

Now, I hope you can help me backup my server. This is email from Leaseweb for me, because my server
unable to boot the OS, showing two failed drives in the raid array. Please read:

1/
"We are currently investigating the issue on your KWWH0015 server. We found your server
unable to boot the OS, showing two failed drives in the raid array. After reboot, the
server is requesting a fsck on /dev/sda2. Once more information becomes available, you
will be informed."

2/
"Unfortunately we ca not start a fsck on your KWWH0015 server, since the partition
has almost 15TB. Currently your server is booted in rescue mode, reachable via ping
and SSH (port 22). You can find the credentials in your SSC page.

You can further try to recover the data from your server. Please be aware that both
drive 2 and 3 have reallocated sectors and need to be replaced.

We can replace only one drive (the most damaged one) and try to rebuild the array,
but there is no guarantee that the raid will recover. Please note that Leaseweb
does not take responsibility for any data loss.

Since this option to rebuild the array could fail, I advise you to create a offsite
backup of your data before we start replacing the drive.

Could you please be so kind and let us know how would you like us to further
proceed?"

3/
"7TB is indeed very much data, we as leaseweb only offer R1soft as backup
solution. I know that there are other company's that have a backup
service but 7TB is really much data.

Is there no possibility that you backup the really important data?

What i can try is replace the worst hard drive with the most reallocated
sectors and hopefully the raid will rebuild again. But as you understand
there is a risk what my colleague already told that your data will be lost.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed."

4/
"I would like to inform you with the following.

Because of the 7TB data it is almost impossible to backup your data to a
backup service. There are two options

1: Rent a second server with the exact same harddisks space and copy the
data to there.

2: We can add disks to your server so you are able to copy the data to
there.

For both options i need to transfer this to our sales department. Let me
know if you are interested in one of these options . But please be aware
that you need to copy the data by yourself as we don't support this task."

5/
"I would like to inform you that LeaseWeb can not be responsible for any
data loss, data and backups are customers responsibility.

Please be aware that both options my colleague has recommended are
suitable for you.

Unfortunately we do not offer any support for backups, the
responsibility lies solely with our customers.

I will transfer your request to our Sales department in order for them
to provide you additional information regarding the offered option and
the costs.

We hope to have informed you sufficiently."

**************

"Dear Mr,

I would like to inform you.

The newly installed drives are configured as a single RAID-0 array. The
previous issue with the BBU reported by my colleague has also been solved.

To facilitate data recovery, I have mounted your old "/" partition in
/mnt/root/" and the newly created RAID array as "/mnt/backup/".

Please note, the following drives contain relocated sectors and should
also be replaced after you perform the backup:
- slot 2: S4Fxxxx8
- slot 3: Z2Fxxxx
- slot 5: W7xxxxx

The server is online and reachable via ssh. Please perform the necessary
back up and inform us when we may safely replace the other failing
drives and re-install the OS."

************************************

"Leaseweb cannot assist you in data recovery operations. Due to the
unmanaged nature of our services, we cannot offer you support with this
task.

Please perform the necessary backup and inform us when we may proceed.

Kindly awaiting your reply."

************************************

Please help me backup data from old HDD to new HDD, and tell me know how much cost, I really need your help, thank you very much.
Regards,

I would rent another server (say for 1 week) and transfer files to it and then let them try replacing 1 HDD and rebuild the RAID (Most probably 1 more HDD will fail if they try rebuilding RAID with that much data in it). If rebuilding works, you are all good but if it doesn't, you can always get the HDD replaced and transfer your data back.

Alternatively, just rent out a server with same amount of storage space and transfer your data and use your new server.

You are probably looking around 200-300 dollars for server with that much storage space i assume.

yup you can use cp command to copy back the files.

cp -R /mnt/backup/old-array/**file-path/public_html/files /**new-path/public_html/

If you are not comfortable with commandline -
if you use cpanel, use file manager. there should be file manager in every hosting manager...
