Improve image quality

On imgur.com when you upload a picture, it is excellent original quality

when you upload a picture to yetishare based site, it looks terrible. I believe the quality is actually currently set to 75% not 90%

Either way pleaes make it 100%

and not jpg, rather png or something better than current

which files and paths control the quality level when resizing original down to a LARGE image, and when resizing down to a THUMBNAIL image?

e.g. 5MP image uploaded, it creates a thumbnail and a preview large image.... right?
Can we increase the quality of the large image and thumbnail independently?

Example
Thumbnail Quality: 95
Large Quality: 80

So which files are responsible for THUMBNAIL resizing, and which files are responsible for LARGE (non-original) image resizing?
