Hi,
as I asked here: http://forum.mfscripts.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=314
I could use uploading files over 2GBl; while compiling from source modified PHP/Apache build is not an option for me. Maybe FTP can be the solution - is it possible to add FTP upload supprt to this script? (at least for premium users).

It would be nice even for smaller files on unreliable or slow links where even uploading 1GB can take several hours...
Thanks

FTP support would be really useful indeed.

My website works with large custom roms and those are getting bigger by the month. The remote url upload function was 1 thing on my wanted list, ftp xs would be second. So if it's possible that would be awesome (and i think a lot of users would like that).

Btw CloudFlare (DDOS protection service) recently limited their upload to just 100MB for uploads so if anyone wants to use it, he has to use FTP to upload large files.
Please reconsider this option.
Thanks

It's still being considered. :) I just can't see a way to enable it via the script without some integration with your ftp server + setting up an ftp account for each script user. It's not very straight forward unfortunately.

Couple of possibilities:

Thanks for the suggestions. We're leaning towards the cPanel ftp API, although of course it'll eliminate non cPanel users. I'd ideally like a solution that works for all users, I'm not sure we'll find one though.

Dear Adam,
thank you for the reply. If possible I would kindly ask you to consider ISPConfig 3 as the supported administration panel.
It is free, opensource and time tested (OVH.co.uk uses it as default - https://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/distributions/ispconfig.xml?sort=gnu). The only thing paid is the manual (5 USD one time I think) and if you are used to cPanel you probably won't need it. If you need to go for custom installation (VPS) just follow step by step installation instructions available for all distros (Debian, Centos, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, ...)
http://www.howtoforge.com/howtos/control-panels/ispconfig?from=0
I have never installed LAMP package before and it was really easy and worked out of the box. Really great community around it.

Here is documentation how to specificially add FTP users which is what you are probably looking for:
http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-create-remote-api-scripts-for-ispconfig-3

If necesarry I can provide test setup for you Adam just PM me or email me.

cPanel is really not an option for me - I can't afford to waste 425 USD for the year license on cPanel while I already have a free alternative. For me 425 USD can be 3 years rent for the dedicated server.

I've never heard of it in any of the hosting packages, it sounds like it's got less coverage than cPanel. Whatever we build will need to cover the most popular hosting environments otherwise we end up supported code for 10's of different platforms.

It's likely that we'll look at a way to do it on the command line via SSH. Failing that we'll likely use the cPanel API. Either way, I'm sure as soon as the plugin code is built, you'll be able to modify it to support your preferred hosting environment. :)

Seriously I can't do 425 USD a year for cPanel
especially while there is an alternative backed by largest server host company in the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OVH

I would rather add FTP users manually - somehow editing a file / adding to the administration of the script and emailing credentials to the users.

*fingers crossed for SSH*

Sure here you go:
https://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/kimsufi.xml
8.99 GBP is about 14 USD
https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=8.99+GBP+in+USD

As of calculation:
Code:
https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=d&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=%28425%20USD%29%2F14USD%20per%20month&=&=&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1#hl=en&tbo=d&sclient=psy-ab&q=%28425+USD%29%2F%2814USD+per+month%29&oq=%28425+USD%29%2F%2814USD+per+month%29&gs_l=serp.3...11417.13210.0.13859.2.2.0.0.0.0.140.255.0j2.2.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.2.serp.kQjCFYkHXp8&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.42261806,d.bGE&fp=62fe5918801b78ca&biw=1699&bih=993
Or for short:
Code:
http://goo.gl/qNtJM
Yeah, it's really cheap - any startup can do it.

Btw I don't use this particular one - but sure it could handle some traffic - at least for start till paying customers start rolling in.

My point was that if you can avoid cPanel you can get monthly cost really low - you can get VPS for like 10 USD a month which for start before users start rolling in by the dozens will do.

Ok fair enough.

None of those servers would be any good for my needs to be honest, my servers have a minimum of 8 cores, 16gb ram and 8x 1TB HDDs

I understand, though they have these in offer as as well:
https://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/hg_extralarge.xml
Intel Bi Xeon E5630 (8 cores), 48 GB RAM, 12x3TB HDD
(389 USD per month)

But please let's stay on topic - as you can see there is a very large hosting provider, actually largest in the world, which backs ISPConfig 3 while it is free for everyone - please consider adding support for it.
Thanks

As Adam hinted here: http://forum.mfscripts.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=443&start=10#p1510

New update is rolling out tomorrow. The bad news (at least for me) is that it's going to use cPanel which means you need you need to pay 425 USD yearly for its license.

Does this update enable that I can upload files over 2GB without re-compiling the PHP for 64bits?
Is there any way how to add FTP users manually for those who ask for it? (not using cpanel) So everyone can befit from it?

Yes files over 2GB can be uploaded as it doesn't use PHP, only FTP.

For now it's just cPanel, we're looking at other options but there's no standard way of doing it unfortunately. Probably something automated via the command line next.

There's no way to manage the FTP users manually.

Thanks,
Adam.
