File Hash and queue speed

Will enabling link hashing slow down the performance of the server queue to a noticeable degree degree? I know link hashing has security benefits. I guess I need to know if the hash is created from MD5 or SHA-1?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by link hashing? Do you mean the different short url types option via the site settings?
