SMTP not working

Hi, I've configured the SMTP settings to use my google mail account (using port 465 etc) but when I test the 'forgot password' function I get the error "SMTP -> NOTICE: EOF caught while checking if connected".

Also, the site never actually sends out any emails.

Can you help me please?

You get that error because gmail requires SSL/STARTTLS encryption

Have you tried the hostname as
ssl://smtp.gmail.com
Or
tls://smtp.gmail.com
